Dubai Marathon Kicks Off Registration for Landmark 25th Anniversary Event in February 2026

Dubai, UAE – Registration is now officially open for the 25th edition of the iconic Dubai Marathon, scheduled for February 1, 2026. Marking its silver jubilee, the Middle East’s longest-standing international road race will commemorate this major milestone with exclusive events and elite-level competition.

Organized with the continued backing of the Dubai Sports Council, the marathon is globally recognized for its flat and fast course, drawing elite runners and avid participants from around the world. With entrants anticipated from over 140 nations, the event holds a prominent place in Dubai’s sporting landscape and on the global marathon calendar.

The Dubai Marathon was the first in the region to receive the esteemed Gold Label from World Athletics, establishing itself as a stage for exceptional athletic achievement. Legendary names such as Haile Gebrselassie have run its course—his 2008 debut saw him post the second-fastest marathon time in history, propelling the race into global prominence.

The Dubai Sports Council reaffirmed its support, citing the marathon’s vital role in enhancing the city’s global sports profile and its positive impact on tourism and the economy. Over the last quarter-century, the event has evolved into one of the world’s top ten marathons, consistently attracting world-class talent and thousands of amateur runners.

In addition to the 42.195 km marathon, the 2026 event will include a 10 km race and a 4 km fun run, ensuring opportunities for participants across various age groups and abilities. Registration is now live on the official website: www.dubaimarathon.org.

Race Director Peter Connerton stated: “In collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and other government entities, we’re thrilled to launch registration for the 25th Dubai Marathon. To commemorate this milestone, we’re planning a series of special events throughout the year leading to race day.”

Connerton continued: “Since its inception, the Dubai Marathon has steadily risen to join the ranks of the world’s most prestigious road races. Iconic moments such as Haile Gebrselassie’s 2008 run and the 2018 edition—where seven runners finished in under 2:05—have defined its legacy.”

In recent years, emerging talents have left their mark. Olympic champion Tamirat Tola triumphed in 2017, while 2019 saw world champion Ruth Chepngetich debut and win in Dubai. Earlier this year, Ethiopian athlete Boti Gelemeshu claimed the men’s title in his first appearance with a 2:04:51 finish, and Berdado Hirpa won the women’s race in 2:18:27, outpacing her previous record after an intense race against 2023 winner Dera Dida.

Ahmed Al Kamali, General Coordinator of the Dubai Marathon, emphasized Dubai’s unmatched capabilities in hosting major international events: “Dubai’s world-class infrastructure, advanced transportation, and diverse hospitality offerings make it a premier destination. The marathon plays a vital role in showcasing Dubai as a global hub for tourism and sports.”

“We are excited to welcome participants from around the globe as we honor the silver jubilee of the Dubai Marathon – the region’s pioneering international marathon.”
